Comprehensive Diabetes Podiatric Assessments
Looking after your feet when you have Diabetes is extremely important. This includes regular, professional assessment and education.
Leanne Shields Podiatry recommends Annual Comprehensive Diabetes Assessments. The results of which are discussed thoroughly with you and then forwarded to your GP.
How is Blood Flow Testing of The Foot Conducted?
Diabetes is a manageable condition if you take preventive measures now. In podiatry preventive measures include: Blood flow testing of the foot (Doppler Ultrasound Assessment of the foot arteries) and Nerve testing of the foot to identify any potential risks.
The blood flow in your lower limbs is measured using a device called a Doppler ultrasound (note that a regular ultrasound machine cannot measure the frequency of blood flow circulation.) Your podiatrist will press the transducer against your skin. The ultrasound will estimate how fast the blood circulation is as well as the change in frequency. This procedure is non invasive and usually only takes a few minutes. The purpose of the assessment is to check the possibility of peripheral arterial disease.
Your Podiatrist will also explain the possible consequences of poorly controlled diabetes on your foot health and explain the steps you can take to ensure healthy feet for life. Leanne Shields Podiatry partners with your GP to ensure your overall health.
